Young Women in Science

Girls Science Clubs

Girls Science Clubs

Weekly after school science programs are offered in underserved public schools for girls in grades 3 - 6. Local women scientists and engineers volunteer their time and work alongside high school youth as mentors. Participants prepare a showcase of their activities for their caregivers and teachers at the end of each 10 week session.

Youth Mentors

High school students and members of the BCC STEM Academy are hired and trained as mentors to the youth in Girls Science Clubs. They attend the weekly meetings, supporting the science investigations and forming relationships with the younger girls. They assist the STEM volunteers and are part of a dynamic cohort of teenagers in Berkshire county. They receive stipends, community service credits, and mentorship from FCI staff to support their own aspirations.

Women in STEM Volunteers

Wonderful local scientists and engineers share their own STEM journey and aspirations as they lead a hands-on investigation or activity. We are so grateful for these partnerships!

Girl’s Robotics Club

At these robotics clubs girls choose a real-world challenge for their robots to solve and then work as a team to build and program robots using Lego EV3 technology as a potential solution to those problems. They have taken on space garbage, pollution of the oceans, and more!
